# Get a stuck task moving again

> Read the line on a task card or a full-page workspace screen, and learn why the work stopped. Then fix the cause, from AI account limits and credits to a workspace that is offline.

## Read the task card

Open **Tasks**. When a task isn't moving, its card says why:

### "No progress for 1h"

**Cause:** The run is still going but has reported nothing for an hour. After 4 hours you get a notification: "[squad member] has made no progress on [task] for 4h".

**Fix:**

1. Open the task and read **Logs** for the last step.
2. If that step is a long one, leave it running. Otherwise select **Retry** to start a fresh run.

### A task is Blocked

**Cause:** Your squad asked you a question or sent a draft for approval. The task shows a line ending in "waiting on you", with **Review**. With no ticket open, the task waits while a recurring job or a squad member you approved is set up, and moves on by itself.

**Fix:** Select **Review**, or open **Tasks > Tickets**, and answer. The task moves on after your last answer. See [Answer questions and approve drafts](/docs/tickets).

## The reasons on a failed run

The reason in "Last run failed" and "Stopped" is one of these. While the card says "Retrying", the task runs again on its own. Once it says "Stopped", fix the reason, then select **Retry** or add a comment.

See [Fix a sign-in that expired](/docs/connect-your-ai#fix-a-sign-in-that-expired). |

## Automatic retries stopped

When a run fails, SquadRoom tries the task again on its own, and these messages mean it has stopped trying.

**Retry**, **Resume Task**, or a comment from you starts a stopped task again. **Activity** then records that you asked for a fresh run.

### "This Task could not close after several tries. The SquadRoom team has it. Nothing is needed from you, but Retry or a comment starts it again."

**Cause:** A run failed a check before it could close its task, then failed 3 more tries. The SquadRoom team is told. The card says "Stopped after repeated failures. The SquadRoom team has it. Retry or comment to start again."

**Fix:** Nothing is needed. To try again yourself, select **Retry** or add a comment.

### "SquadRoom paused automatic retries after 6 attempts ended without finishing this Task. It stays In Progress without relaunching; a comment with new direction restarts it."

**Cause:** 6 runs in a row ended without finishing and without saying why. You also get the notification "[squad member] stopped on [task] after 6 tries".

**Fix:** Add a comment with new direction, or select **Retry**.

## Your AI account hit its usage limit

If you have another account or a fallback provider, it takes over first. See [What happens when an account hits its limit](/docs/connect-your-ai#what-happens-when-an-account-hits-its-limit).

If nothing can take over, no new task runs start in your workspace until the time your provider gives. The task goes back to **Queued**. **Activity** and a notification say "Your [provider] plan hit its usage limit." or "[provider] is overloaded right now." They also give the time work starts again. In Chat, a message that couldn't be answered tells you when to send it again.

**Fix:** Do nothing, and the work starts again at that time. To go on now, switch to another AI account in **Settings > Model Providers**. Switching ends the wait. Or raise your plan's limit at your provider. **Model accounts** in **Settings > Usage** shows what is left on each account and when it resets.

## The monthly limit stops the squad

**Cause:** Your squad used its monthly credit limit, so SquadRoom paused the whole squad. Cards show "Paused · monthly credit limit reached", the sidebar shows "Monthly limit reached", and a ticket opens: "Monthly credit limit of [limit] reached".

**Fix:** Pick a higher limit in the ticket, or raise the limit in **Settings > Usage**. The squad starts again at once. If you do nothing, it starts again when your next billing cycle starts.

**Resume squad** doesn't work here. It tells you to raise the limit in **Settings > Usage**.

## Credits stop research

**Cause:** You have 0 credits. The sidebar shows "Credits are used up", and every paid research lookup is refused. A task whose research was refused stops, and its card says "Waiting for credits · restarts by itself after a top-up". One task can also spend at most 900 credits on research. At that limit, the squad member finishes with what it found and says in its result what is missing.

**Fix:** Buy a pack in **Settings > Billing**, or wait for your monthly credits to reset. A task that stopped for credits restarts by itself, with no retry or comment from you. See [A task that runs out of credits](/docs/costs#a-task-that-runs-out-of-credits).

## Your workspace is offline or being repaired

When your workspace isn't ready for work, the dashboard can open on a full-page screen instead. Each one except the upgrade screen also has **Sign out**.

| Screen title | What it means | What to do |

| "Reset needs another try" | The reset stopped partway. The workspace itself is removed, but its data is still there. | Select **Resume reset**. |
| "Restore is ready to continue" | You just started a restore. No new work can start. | Wait, or select **Stop and restore** to continue the same restore. |
| "Restore needs attention" | The workspace is stopped while a restore runs or waits to finish. | Wait for "Restore complete", or select **Resume restore**. It never starts a second restore. |
| "Restore complete" | Your workspace was restored from the backup. | Select **Start workspace**. |
| "Restore could not finish" | The restore failed. Your original workspace is unchanged. | Select **Continue with original workspace**. |
| "Your squad is getting an upgrade" | Your workspace is updating. Everything stays where you left it. | Wait. |

### "That attempt didn't finish. Try again in a moment. If the problem continues, contact support."

**Cause:** A button on one of these screens failed.

**Fix:** Select the button again.

### "That attempt was rejected, and repeating it gets the same answer. Contact support@squadroom.app and we'll get it fixed."

**Cause:** A button on one of these screens was refused, and trying again won't help.

**Fix:** Write to support@squadroom.app.

## What SquadRoom doesn't do when work stops

- It doesn't stop a run that shows "No progress for 1h". You decide.
- A usage limit at your AI provider isn't a failure. It never uses up an automatic retry.
- **Retry** never uses up the automatic retries.
- The research limit on one task never stops the task or asks you.

## Still stuck

1. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar and select **Report a problem**.
2. Under "What went wrong?", say what happened and name the task.
3. Select **Send**. You see "Thanks, sent to the SquadRoom team."

It goes to the SquadRoom team, not to your squad. You can also write to support@squadroom.app with the task's title and the message you see.
